Very pleased that (due in no small part to the efforts of Simon Field MW and Andrew Jefford amongst others and to kind words from friends) the La Pèira wines can currently be purchased at Berry Bros. & Rudd, and through Fields, Morris & Verdin.

Hello,
Just wanted to say that I love the web site and the updates. Marketing wise, you guys are on track and have the wine to back it up. Can you tell me when the La-peira en damaisella las flors de la peira ’06 will be released in the U.S.? I thought I only saw the ’05 and hope I did not miss out.
Thanks,
Chris
Hello Chris,
Many thanks for popping into our humble home here.
And for the Comment!
The Las Flors 06 should be a 2/3 months now.
April/May 09 all being well.
All the very best,
RHD / La Peira
Rob,
Thanks for the heads up! I will be on the lookout. I have been looking around and can’t seem to find any comparison between your ’05, ’06, and ’07 vintages. I read Andrew Jefford’s article several times and it looks like the ’06 stands out but thought I would ask for your input.
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Chris,
Sorry for the delay…
I think the vintages so far tell a story.
05 is very exciting. The quality is there. You can probably see this with Gary Vee’s reviews and Kyle Meyer’s tasting. It’s our first vintage. I think it has some of that “New out of the gate” energy which for me is thrilling. It was a really good year with the weather…but then we work with very low yields.
It’s like the “V” theme at the beginning of the opening movement of Beethoven’s 5th symphony (Da-da-da-dum)…
Obviously, the La Peira 05 is exciting now, but is going to acquire different (in English secondary characteristics I think) over time.
Ronnie Sanders review on Cellartracker probably hit the nail on this regading the La Peira. IE: It’s exciting/interesting/fun to drink now, but is going to develop…
“I first had this wine in Charlotte at a European Cellars seminar. Both this wine as well as their white and the Flor de la Peira where the highlights of the tasting. This property is from the same town as Grange de las Peres yet tastes absloutley nothing like it. First of all, I opened and decanted the wine yesterday at noon to take to dinner last night. I never went to dinner so i put the wine back in the bottle around 6:00pm. I went back to the wine today and this stuff is massive. Inky black color. The nose just screams out at you. Its all dark fruits like damsel plums, coffee, licorice and coriander. This is a big wine with tons of glycerin and extract but it has the tannins and acid in balance. Its a really fun wine to taste now but I think it will something really special in a few years.”
06 (for me) has a depth that comes from working with the vineyards longer, and getting to know them more intimately. For me it’s fascinating to see the development in terms of ‘qualities’. Fresh, with possibly more of a sense of finesse? I think you get a idea of this in Andrew Jefford’s article for Word of Fine Wine. Starting to speak more intricately of “place”, and the Terrasses du Larzac & the Herault.
For me it’s like the quiet passage that follows the theme above. The quality is excellent like the 05.
As you’ve probably read (Parker) the 07 vintage in the Rhone, and where we work was amazing. The 07 is still in barrel, so while we’ve tasted the different cepages and plots we haven’t tasted a blend. But the Syrah (especially of the Paulau plot) is rather amazing. As is the Mourvedre and the Grenache. The Obriers 07 is pretty amazing. The Cinsault/Carignan blend.
Hope this makes some sense in giving an idea of the vintages…
I wanted to thank you for that response. I am familiar with your ’05 vintage but really wanted to hear it from the source if you will that the ’06 and really the ’07 are looking good. That’s exciting news about the ’07. I know there are some huge ratings for that year in the Rhone.
You mentioned when the ’06 vintage will be available in the States; will you be sending out newsletters to those who are interested of when your wine is released and who is selling it?
Thanks,
Chris
Great Story! Happy B-day Jeremie
